FLOMPY: An Open-Source Toolbox for Floodwater Mapping Using Sentinel-1 Intensity Time Series

A new automatic, free and open-source python toolbox for the mapping of floodwater is presented. The output a binary mask at user-specified time point within geographical boundaries. It exploits high spatial (10m) temporal (6 days per orbit over Europe) resolution Sentinel-1 GRD intensity series based on four processing steps. In first step, selection images related to pre-flood (baseline) state flood performed. second preprocessing selected performed in order create co-registered stack with all images. third statistical analysis t-score map that represents changes due event calculated. Finally, fourth classification procedure extract final map. thorough several events presented demonstrate main benefits, limitations potential proposed methodology. validation was using Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMS) products. case studies, overall accuracies were higher than 0.95 Kappa scores 0.76. We believe end-user community can benefit by exploiting maps methodological pipeline provided toolbox.
